On this page, we feature special cats and dogs currently waiting at our shelter for the right adopters. Every so often at our adoption center, we take in an adoptable animal with special needs. Maybe there's a pet too energetic for the average household, a dog who requires a special diet, or an FIV+ cat who needs to be placed in a home with either no other cats or another FIV+cat.
These pets might ask of their companions more care, time or energy and in return, they will offer more love, gratitude and satisfaction to their dedicated guardians. Take a look at our current featured animals and better yet, stop by our adoption center and offer them a visit.

ID: 17390800
Description: Buddy dreams of a home with guardians who take him for walks in the glowing morning sun. Then it’s off to the park, where he can take in the smell of freshly-cut grass. Buddy would love to play fetch, especially if there’s more than one tennis ball. He is a sweet and friendly lab that loves everyone he meets, including children. He would do best as the only dog in the home; Buddy wants all the family love to himself!

Description: Gobi is looking for the purr-fect home to call her own! This little lady hides a heart of gold underneath a big strong exterior! A true snuggle-bug, Gobi cherishes the saftey of a warm lap. A bit more reserved than others, she wants to meet you a few times before climbing up and getting cozy. Gobi is smarter than most cats, communicating with you through her tail. She loves a window with a view so she can analyze and meditate in peace. Give her your love, and Gobi is sure to be a loyal family member!

Description: Some dogs welcome new experiences and new people. They look forward to any opportunity to socialize. They're often the first to introduce themselves and they jump into a stranger’s lap easily. Being friendly and outgoing is natural, energizing, and fun. It doesn't take much effort at all. Other dogs are more like our sweet little Raven. She prefers to warm up slowly to new people or situations. Some people may mistakenly think that Raven is standoffish. But it just takes time to get to know her. Raven's closest friends know she is a spunky, cuddly dog who likes tiny pieces of chicken. Many dogs with a shy personality are especially caring toward the people they know, and interested in how they feel. People often consider them the finest canine companions. If you are patient, caring person with a quiet home, Raven may be the match for you.

Description: Roma and Nora, sugar and spice! Roma is a laid back young lady, who's quite the lovebug. She appreciates attention, but leaves the drama for her sister. Nora's the kind of girl who removes her collar and shoves it under the door. As you leave the house, you'll find Nora at your heels ready for adventure. Nora's sweet and playful, and enjoys receiving pets. Come meet this lovely pair today. They must go home together, since they've grown up together!

Description: Shorty seems to have drawn the short straw for the moment, but spend some time with him and you'll soon discover just how long he is on love. This poor guy was recently returned to us after 7 years in a loving home because of a family member's allergies. He is just a bit confused right now, as you might imagine, but he is still sweet as pie. With a little TLC, we imagine he'll be wagging his little nub in no time.

Description: Pretty tortie Tikka lost the only home she knew since kittenhood and is very sad and confused to be in the shelter environment. She has begun to gradually adjust, and enjoys soft talk and gentle pets under her chin and on her cheeks. She will need a patient adopter who will give her time to acclimate to a new home, where we feel confident she will once again blossom into a sweet and more confident kitty. She can be nervous about hands approaching too quickly and would do best in a patient, adults-only home with patient and experienced adopters. Please consider giving this darling girl a second chance in life.

Description: Though a long way from the music city, our boy Nashville could sing a country song or two. After all, it ain't easy being a homeless pup, don't you know. But he chooses to look on the bright side and keep his tune positive. He loves to run and play, and with smarts like his, training is not only fun, but necessary to keep that brain occupied. He's such a leggy fellow who weighs in at just over 60 pounds, we'd like him to go to a home with no toddlers. Older, respectful children should be just fine. If you've got a hankerin' for a down-home doggie to fill a hole in yer heart, shuffle on over and meet Nashville.

Description: Meet Rosie! Every day she devotes herself to making us all smile, and she’s very good at it! She is as sweet as pie, and very gentle. Rosie is a glass half-full kind of girl and doesn’t sweat the small stuff. This special girl is looking forward to her adoption, and can’t wait to get endless attention, and daily exercise. She currently weights about 60 pounds. Ask to meeet Rosie today!

Description: Camellia is a quiet cat who’s just waiting to be loved. She can be a little shy before she gets to know you, but being hard to get is all part of her game, as once you win her heart, it’s yours forever. Camellia has lived with other cats here at the SF SPCA so it is likely she will get along with another cat in her new home if her new guardians can provide a slow introduction. Looking to adopt a pair? Camellia and her roommate do not have to go home together but they make a great pair and we hope you will consider adopting them as a duo.
