Classroom Visits

Enrich your school or classroom with a visit from The SF/SPCA!

The San Francisco SPCA Humane Education Program conducts school visits throughout the year, encouraging children to develop and express attitudes of compassion, kindness, generosity, and respect for all living creatures while helping to build a safer, more compassionate community.

Details:

  • Visits available Monday-Friday
  • Programs are FREE for any San Francisco school teacher
  • Donations are welcome (Membership is $25 and includes our magazine)

How to Request a Classroom Visit

Email us the following information:

  • The program you are requesting
  • At least three preferred dates and times (a month's notice is preferred)
  • Teacher's phone and email address
  • Name of the school
  • School address
  • Grade of the children
  • Number of children

 

Programs

Program: DOG TALK
Available to: K-8th grade
Animal: Friendly dogs
Length: 40-minute presentation
Description: 

  • Understanding dog behavior
  • Communication and body language
  • Safety dos and don’ts, including around strange dogs
  • Meeting a new dog

Program: ANIMAL ART PROGRAM
Available to: All grade levels (most available prior to lunchtime)
Animal: Soda, a large Moluccan Cockatoo bird (other animals available upon request)
Length: One hour interactive program (longer upon request)
Description: 

  • Students learn about life with these sensitive and intelligent birds
  • Based on Soda’s features and personality, students channel their creative talents through drawings of the bird
  • Includes paper, pencils and markers
  • Teachers are welcome to direct the art lesson and use other materials
  • Please set up the room ahead of time for optimal viewing of Soda by each student

Program: COMPANION ANIMAL CARE
Available to: K-3rd grade
Animal: Dog or cat, as available
Length: 40-minute presentation
Description: 

  • Choosing a companion animal
  • Adoption
  • Caring for a companion animal
  • Veterinarians
  • Don’t Litter – Spay or neuter
  • When you need help
  • Includes coloring or activity book and parent guide

Program: CAREERS WITH ANIMALS TALK
Available to: 8th – 12th grade
Animal: Dog or cat, as available
Length: 40-minute presentation

  • Animal welfare job opportunities
  • Skills and interests that individuals can apply within the field
  • Importance of education
